Promote anti-violence event
the knife angel
The Knife Angel is a sculpture created by artist formed of 100,000 knives created by artist Alfie Bradley and the British Ironworks Centre, which has since gone on a nationwide tour to highlight knife crime in the United Kingdom and educate young people of the harmful effect violent behaviour can have on their communities. During its tour, in July 2022, the sculpture spent the month on display in front of the Grand Entrance of Birkenhead Park.
In celebration of the sculpture coming to Birkenhead, Tomorrow’s Women hosted an event on the 22nd July to promote anti-violence and to educate the women on the effects of violent behaviour.
The event consisted of stalls ran by local agencies including:
Bridging the Gap
The Dove Service
Healthwatch Wirral
Red Umbrella Project
Campeneros Spider Project
Morecrofts Solicitors
RASA Merseyside
Merseyside Police
Wirral Council
We also had numerous guest speakers in attendance including Merseyside Police and Crime Commissioner, Julie Webster talking about violence against women and girls, and Lesley Martin, the High Sheriff of Merseyside talking about her work on raising awareness of domestic abuse. Trauma-informed first aiders gave demonstrations on how to save a life post-attack, and most importantly our very own Tomorrow’s Women Creative Arts group gave an emotive performance called ‘Joseph’s Story’ along with singing.
For their work on this event, our Communications Officer Molly, our CEO Angela, and Empowerment Advisor Emma have received the National Youth Anti-Violence Education Award.
