International Women’s Day 2023
On 8th March, we held our annual International Women’s Day event!
We held our usual celebration at our Tomorrow’s Women Wirral centre and held our first celebration at Tomorrow’s Women Chester. This year we decided to take a new approach and make our events more interactive for the women with speakers, performances and activities.
Embracing equity
The theme of this year’s IWD event was “Embracing Equity” whereby the aim was to get the world talking about why equal opportunities aren't enough. People start from different places, so true inclusion and belonging require equitable action.
We integrated the importance of embracing equity in everyday lives within our events.
The event was streamed from our Wirral site to our Chester site, and the women and staff at TW Chester got involved in the activities and listening to speakers.
#embracingequity
The event included an opening video from Emily Spurrell, Merseyside’s Police & Crime Commissioner, as well as a video made by the women explaining what embracing equity meant to them.
We had speakers including our EA Adele as well as poetry reading from our competition winner Oonagh, as well as discussions about an impactful video by Cynthia Nixon about the pressures that women face.
Activities also included placard making , empowerment pledges and an interactive quiz about influential women in history, as well as performances by our Creative Group.
The event also involved our AGM whereby our Chair Maureen Thompson and our board members were in attendance.
