End VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN & girls
25th November is the official start of the 16 days of action to end Violence Against Women and Girls. Tomorrow’s Women marked this day with their annual events held at both Chester and Wirral centres.
Both centres invited women to attend their events which consisted of speakers, activities, music performances and refreshments. Speakers included women who had personal experiences, as well as professionals including Merseyside Police, Deputy PCC of Cheshire, and Merseyside PCC Emily Spurrell.
This year’s theme is It Starts With Men, which focuses on the importance of education at a young age and men calling out misogynic attitudes, in order to eliminate violence against women and girls.
Wirral EA, Emma, organised an art exhibition of Kintsugi bowls with the support of local organisations. Kintsugi is the art of breaking a bowl, decorating the pieces and gluing them back together, representing that women who experience abuse can be “broken” but can be put back together. The bowls were displayed in various spaces across Merseyside including the Floral Pavilion and The Williamson Art Gallery.
Tomorrow’s Women also took part in a number of other events and activities during the 16 days of action including the White Ribbon Walk at Birkehead Park, as well as Reclaim the Night march in Chester city centre. These events are vital to raise awareness of and campaign to end violence against women and girls.
Women only club night
Tomorrow’s Women hosted a women-only club night event on 3rd December at Future Yard in Birkenhead.
This event welcomed women and partners from organisations that can support women’s safety, to enjoy a worry-free night as well as raise awareness of VAWG.
This event caught the attention of the media, resulting in ITV Granada Reports reporting live from the event itself.
The event was a huge success and we hope to hold more similar events in the future.
