On Wednesday 23rd August 2017 Dame Lorna E F Muirhead DCVO DBE visited the Tomorrow’s Women Wirral (TWW) centre for Afternoon Tea!
Dame Lorna met with TWW staff, volunteers and women of the centre – revisiting after over 6 years for an Afternoon Tea lovingly prepared by TWW volunteers. The Lord-Lieutentant met with women who have transformed their lives, over the last 6 year, thanks to the TWW centre and other organisations.
As her Majesty's representative of the Crown for Merseyside, Dame Lorna discussed the evolution of TWW with women from all backgrounds.
Born in Shropshire, Dame Lorna trained as a nurse and then as a midwife in Birmingham before coming to Liverpool in 1965 with her husband, who was engaged in Postgraduate studies at the University of Liverpool. The plan was to stay in Liverpool for two years! Dame Lorna Muirhead was appointed Lord-Lieutenant of Merseyside in 2006 upon the retirement of Sir Alan Waterworth KCVO.
During the event, we were visited by the lovely people at Made in Liverpool TV who interviewed TWW staff and ex-service users. The film was used in the news broadcasts the following day. (Pictured below).
On leaving the event, Dame Lorna said, "I know the Queen well enough to know, very very sincerely that she would be as inspired to hear what I have heard this morning. I've done this job for 11 years I've never had a day in that time when I've been so inspired by what I've heard. So for those of you who have turned your lives around, well done and keep going. To those of you who are making it happen, keep going!"
What an inspiring visit!
